Tools - Settings - View - Tree -
Tab General

Under "Tools → Settings → View → Tree" in the tab "General" the following basic settings are offered for the file system tree and the favorite items tree.

File system tree

There are two arrangements available for displaying the file system tree:

One tree for both panels

If this alternative is chosen, the file system tree is shown on the left side of the left panel.

One tree per panel

If this alternative is chosen, two file system trees are shown (one per panel). Additional settings are:

  • Position of the file system trees in the panels
One of the following positions can be chosen:
    • left  -  left
The file system tree is shown on the left side of both panels
    • left  -  right
The file system tree is shown on the left side of the left panel, and on the right side of the right panel
    • right  -  right

The file system tree is shown on the right side of both panels

    • right  -  left

The file system tree is shown on the right side of the left panel, and on the left side of the right panel

    • Tree visibility per tab
If this setting is checked, the file system tree can be activated and deactivated separately per tab (menu item "View → Tree" or the hotkey "Alt+T"). That means the file system tree may be activated in some tabs but not in others.

Splitter hot spot visible

If this setting is checked, a bar is shown in each splitter to indicate that it can be dragged for resizing. (This setting applies only to the system tree splitters, not the main splitter. For controlling the main splitter hot spot, use "Tools → Settings → View", option "Hot spot visible".)

Auto resize for main splitter changes

If this setting is checked, the file system tree panel is resized automatically, if the position of the main splitter was changed.

Favorite items tree

There are two arrangements available for displaying the favorite items tree:

One tree for both panels

If this alternative is chosen, the favorite items tree is shown on the left side of the left panel.

One tree per panel

If this alternative is chosen, two favorite items trees are shown - one per panel.  The position in panel follows the setting of “File system tree > One tree per panel”.

Position against the file system tree

If both a file system tree and a favorite items tree are opened and both use either "One tree for both panels" or "One tree per panel", the position of the favorite items tree relative to the file system tree can be specified as follows:

  • left
The favorite items tree is shown to the left of the file system tree.
  • right
The favorite items tree is shown to the right of the file system tree.
  • top
The favorite items tree is shown above the file system tree.
  • bottom
The favorite items tree is shown below the file system tree.

Hot track

If this setting is checked, the file system tree and the favorite items tree row (item) under the mouse cursor will be highlighted in color.

Full row select

If this setting is checked, the entire file system tree row and favorite items tree row is highlighted in color, not only the item and its symbol.

Theme off (need program restart)

If this setting is checked, the active Windows theme will not be used for the display of the file system tree and the favorite items tree.

A change of this setting will take effect only after restarting FreeCommander.
