Main menu - File - Rename |

After activating the main menu item "File → Rename" or the "F2" key the item (file or folder) highlighted in the active panel can be renamed.
If more than one item is selected on calling this function, the function "File → Multi rename..." is called automatically.
Configuration of the rename process
The rename process can be configured under the menu item "Tools → Settings → File/folder operations" in the tab "General".
The following settings are offered:
Allow rename on slow double click
If this option is checked, the rename process is activated on slow double clicking an item (file or folder). Thus, the slow double click corresponds to the activation of the menu item "File → Rename" or the "F2" key.
Use dialog window for rename
If this option is checked, on activating the rename process the rename dialog window is opened, where the highlighted item can be renamed.
If this option is not checked, the item can be renamed directly in the list of files and folders.
Select only file name
If this option is checked, the file/folder name is selected (marked) without extension.
This option is applied only to renaming in the list of files and folders and not to renaming in the dialog window.
Rename in the list of files and folders
If the option "Use dialog window for rename" is not checked, on activating the rename process the display of the item is overlaid with an editor containing the file/folder name and extension. In this case file name and extension can be renamed directly in the list, without opening the dialog window.
If the option "Select only file name" is checked, the file/folder name is selected (marked) without extension. Otherwise name and extension are selected. The rename process is started on leaving the editor.
If the option "Use dialog window for rename" is checked, on activating the rename process the dialog window "Rename" is opened, where the file/folder can be renamed.
