Overview of the user interface - Status bar


The status bar is shown in each panel below the list of folders and files.

The position of the status bar in the main window is shown in chapter "Overview of the user interface".



If the cursor stops over a field in the status bar, a hint at the field (defined under menu item "Tools → Settings → View → Status bar") is shown.



Under the menu item "Tools → Settings → View → Status bar" the contents of the status bar can be configured. It consists of items. Each item is composed of individual status bar fields and a condition (within which the item is shown). After clicking the status bar close to the splitter (but in front of the quick filter) the contents of the folder shown in the active tab of the panel (that was clicked) is also shown in the active tab of the other panel.

After right-clicking a status bar field a menu is shown with the menu items of the sub menu of "View → Show" plus the menu item "Settings...". After activating "Settings..."  the status bar setting can be defined. See menu item "Tools → Settings → View → Status bar".

Show/hide files tooltip

Clicking this menu item activates it (it is preceded by ) or deactivates it. If this menu item is activated (checked) and the cursor is over a file or folder, information about this item is shown as tooltip. This option can also be defined in the tab "General" of the main menu item "Tools → Settings → View → File/folder list".

Show/hide folders

Clicking this menu item activates it (it is preceded by ) or deactivates it. If this menu item is activated the file/folder list also shows folders.  This option can also be defined in the tab "General" of the main menu item "Tools → Settings → View → File/folder list".

Show hidden items

Clicking this menu item activates it (it is preceded by ) or deactivates it. If this menu item is activated (checked), also items with the "hidden" attribute are shown. This option can also be defined in the tab "General" of the main menu item "Tools → Settings → View → File/folder list".

Show system items

Clicking this menu item activates it (it is preceded by ) or deactivates it. If this menu item is activated (checked), also items with the "system" attribute are shown. This option can also be defined in the tab "General" of the main menu item "Tools → Settings → View → File/folder list".

Dual/one panel

Clicking this context menu item,or the main menu "View Dual/one panel", or the "F10" key switches between the two presentation modes.

Show command line

Clicking this menu item activates it (it is preceded by ) or deactivates it. If this menu item is activated (checked), a line is shown at the bottom of FreeCommander's window with an input field for DOS commands on the right. The DOS command is executed (after activating the "ENTER" key) in a command prompt window. This option can also be defined under the main menu item "Tools → Settings → View → DOS prompt".

Show functions bar

Clicking this menu item activates it (it is preceded by ) or deactivates it. If this menu item is activated (checked), a bar (containing the functions assigned to it) is shown as the lowermost row of the FreeCommander window. This option can also be defined under the main menu item "Tools → Settings → View → Function key bar", where also functions can be assigned to the functions bar.

Show/hide main menu

Clicking this menu item activates it (it is preceded by ) or deactivates it. The menu bar is shown or hidden. If the icon with the command "Show/hide main menu" is shown in the "Actions toolbar", it can be used also to show or hide the menu bar.

Show toolbars

Clicking this menu item activates it (it is preceded by ) or deactivates it. If this menu item is activated (checked), all toolbars are visible. To hide all toolbars - deactivate this option. The state of this option is not saved on program closing.

Activate auto selectable views

Clicking this menu item activates it (it is preceded by ) or deactivates it. If this menu item is activated (checked), the option "Switch view mode automatically on folder change" in the tab "Auto selectable views" of the menu item "Tools → Settings → View → Column profiles/automatic views" is checked and each time a folder is changed the topmost automatic view whose conditions are met is opened. If the menu item is deactivated,

 no automatic view is activated.
