Backup Settings window has truncated data

#1 Post by Forez » 22.10.2023, 18:32

After going to

Tools > Backup all settings...

what I see at the bottom of that pop-up box is a truncation in form of
Bkp_Settin
plus also inability to see the last two digits at the right edge where the time is shown. And adjusting the width fo that windows does not fix these cut of texts

I am using Build 896 64-bit Donor Portable

This issue is still present in build 900

And changing my Windows setting of

Menu Start > Settings > Ease Of Access > Display > Make everything bigger > Change the size of apps and text on the main display > 150%

to 100% does no fix this

Also reducing my

Menu Start > Settings > Ease of Access > Display > Make Text Bigger > 110%

to 100% does not help in this matter, even when combined with the previous 100% setting

Never seen such problem too.

You could try to delete the section [dlgBackupFolderDef_State] in the freecommander.ini (first close the program).
Maybe some values are wrong.

Something really fishy is going on here

Because when I wrote

[...]
I stupidly forgot to add that what I now have truncated is the right side of that line i.e. the end of the date and time info:

fc backup window long.png
fc backup window short.png

And as you can see it does not matter how wide that window I will make

So, thinking later on that something must have been fixed between build 896 and 900 I went back to a clean version of build 896 with default settings and saw no issues with that window at all. But when I imported to it my settings what I got was this

fc backup window medium.png

i.e. a previous form of this issues with truncation occurring on the left side plus new one on the right side - something that was not happening before. So I opened a clean version of build 900 with default settings and also saw no issues with that window at all. But after importing to it my settings the issue manifested itself in the same way as it does in my normal [900] version of FC that I use daily i.e. with truncation occurring only on the right side

And yes, during these new tests I made sure to reduce my 150% / 110% system settings to 100% / 100%

That did not help - and no wonder as they are only

Code: Select all

Left
Top
Width
Height
State
FullScreen

In Build 946 64-bit Donor Portable on Windows 10 IOT Enterprise LTSC 21H2 x64 (19044.6691) this issue is still present; despite me having cleaned my FreeCommander.ini config file (viewtopic.php?t=14226). And also if I will use the default settings of

Menu Start > Settings > Ease Of Access > Display > Make everything bigger > Change the size of apps and text on the main display > 100%

Menu Start > Settings > Ease of Access > Display > Make Text Bigger > 100%

its the same. Although one tiny change has occurred after my updates (even before turning off that system-wide scaling): now only ~90% of the last digit gets truncated at the right edge of this

Tools > Backup all settings...

window. But then again: if I will open FC with default settings, then this issue is absent

So this is clearly an issue with some messed up INI file - but as I said I already performed manual cleaning of the main one

I have pin pointed the culprit - or should I said the enforcer

It is the

Code: Select all

DialogsFontUseDefined=1
line in the

Code: Select all

FreeCommander.ini
main config file. Because it I delete it or change it to

Code: Select all

DialogsFontUseDefined=0
the I reckon the following lines

Code: Select all

DialogsFontName=Lucida Console
DialogsFontCharset=238
DialogsFontSize=11
DialogsFontBold=0
DialogsFontItalic=0
DialogsFontUnderline=0
DialogsFontStrikeout=0
get to be ignored - which result with my FreeCommander using the default font and thus showing me all of the text i.e. nothing gets truncated

So apparently it comes down to this: FreeCommander provides users with ability to change font - but then in this window (and some few others that I have stumbled upon) does not account correctly for the actual width coming out from used font i.e. it does not stretch a given window wide enough and / or does not narrow down boxes / areas so that a text will have enough room to fit in
