Please add an option to always auto resize all columns

#1 Post by WasabiNME » 20.10.2017, 06:33

In other words, just like how the shortcut for auto resizing columns (Ctrl+Shift+Num+) behaves now, but without having to click it every time you change folders.

I have never had any luck using the column settings to auto resize the name field. It's always too long even with width set to zero, and it always truncates really long file names. And of course there's no option to auto resize the other columns.

The shortcut also truncates really long file names. So can that bug be fixed along with making "always auto resize all columns" an option? Pleeeease?

I'm using donor 740, for what it's worth.

+1 for always auto resize all columns option

+10 fix that truncating bug (in my case the longest filename is always truncated, no matter if it is a very long or a normal filename)

Yes - this is my settings:

But there is always too much extra in the Name column with "normal" length filenames:

And always long Names get cut off:

FCXE font settings:
Segoe UI
10 pt
Semibold
(this topic could also be helpful: http://forum.freecommander.com/search.p ... s=semibold)

system settings:

[edit]
truncating the last few letters also happens on a vanilla FCXE_761 portable

Font - Tahoma Regular 8 pt
Screen 2560x1440

The truncating problem is usually when FC is windowed or at a lower resolution, like remote viewing from iPad Pro at 1366x1024. I don't have filenames long enough to be an issue at 2560x1440. However, the "too much extra space" bug is always there with any resolution, windowed or full screen.

no truncating of filenames any longer.

@Marek, you are my hero - I've been waiting so long for that. Thanks a lot.

This has worked perfectly until the days where it's possible to have very large folders. It doesn't matter how wide I make the "size in bytes" column - if the size reaches 14 digits, it just won't open up that last little bit automatically. I have to manually use the "auto resize columns" shortcut.

This should be an easy fix, I hope?

14 ist set in your column profile. You can change it: https://freecommander.com/fchelpxe/en/C ... files.html

The question is, why do you use the "Size Byte(s)" column? "Auto Size" is much easier to read and doesn't take up as much space.

14 is not set in my column profile. That's the number of digits where the width begins to be truncated. As I already said, it doesn't matter what number I use there.

Because I am not you, my needs are different, I like precision, and I don't care about the Very Dramatic space savings of...a few extra pixels.

But thanks for your helpful input.
