Double Clicking On Free Space feature should not utilize only the Left Mouse Button

#1 Post by Forez » 23.06.2024, 10:15

There is this feature

Tools > Settings > View > File/folder list > Mouse shortcuts > By double clicking on free space

which has few options concerning LMB that each user can use at owns discretion. But what about expanding the scope of possibilities in FreeCommander by giving users ability to utilize also the RMB and MMB button? Could the above be changed to

Tools > Settings > View > File/folder list > Mouse shortcuts > Double clicking on free space - with Left Button

while also adding then

Tools > Settings > View > File/folder list > Mouse shortcuts > Double clicking on free space - with Right Button

and

Tools > Settings > View > File/folder list > Mouse shortcuts > Double clicking on free space - with Middle Button

to accommodate other needs users might have [like this one: https://freecommander.com/forum/viewtop ... 054#p43054]?

I reckon that RMB could be tricky because it is used to evoke the shell menu - but I see no reason why double MMB should remain being idle

I think it would be hard or even impossible, adding middle and right button double click, because mouse shortcuts already have options to single middle and single right button on free space, so it may cause conflicts.

BTW, I'm using left double-click for refresh and middle button for toggle selection, right button is default context menu.

But by that logic implementing double Left Click had to be equally difficult, because a single one had been already widely used

Not really, left click has no special function, middle click has custom functions, like even Toggle select, which I'm using, so first middle click is select all files, second middle click is select all items, with double middle click it would be hard to find for program, if I clicked 2x slowly to "select all items", or 2x for double middle click for other function.

With right click is hard too, since first 1 right click opens context menu.

I think that unfortunately you are right

Because a few months ago I was trying to update my old AutoHotkey script that makes usage of Media Player Classic Home Classic more user-friendly, by making it utilize more of all of the mouse buttons in various ways, while also trying to retain basic functionality when using only the MPC intrinsic configuration (i.e. when the script becomes closed / not used for whatever reason)

And long story short, although I did increase it capabilities greatly, I failed at re-using of double LMB and RMB - as I was always either running into glitches or outright trading one functionality at the cost of another; like for example I got what I wanted with double LMB, but I was no longer able to resize a window by grabbing its edge with single LMB being pushed down

But then again: I was adjusting a program with a script and not the program itself, plus my IT knowledge is limited. Therefore I would like for Marek to speak out about possibility of expanding usage of double mouse buttons in FreeCommander
